Garrya elliptica 'Evie'
Evie Coast Silktassel
Description
Coast silktassel is a large shrub or a small tree, reaching 12' tall and wide. However, it can be twice as big given enough time. Evergreen, dark green, wavy leaves have gray woolly undersides. During winter, white tassels appear, then take on purple color, providing an attractive focal point. 'Evie' can be used as a hedge or espaliered. Can be grown in full sun but needs afternoon shade in warm, inland areas. Does well in coastal areas and is wind tolerant. It does best with well draining soil. Needs extra summer water in hot areas.
