Eriogonum fasciculatum
California Buckwheat
Description
Eriogonum fasciculatum is a fast growing shrub with needle-like, narrow, evergreen, grayish leaves. Pink-white flower heads appear at the end of branching stems in spring, changing to cream and then rust-brown by fall. Flowers are attractive to butterflies. This plant will reach 4' tall with arching branches, rooting where they touch. It can spread 8' wide. This plant is great for hillsides and erosion control. Does well in coastal areas but will tolerate warm inland areas with afternoon shade and additional water. In coastal areas, it is drought tolerant once it's established.
